Upcoming this week is a reminder for our new study on Ranked Choice Voting and proportional representation, the special election in the Gorham-Scarborough area, and a recap of the candlelight vigils that took place on the anniversary of the Capitol insurrection. 

On the anniversary of the insurrection of the U.S. Capitol, Mainers came together to host candlelight vigils across the state to say: In America, the voters decide the outcome of elections. To prevent this kind of attack from happening again, advocates are demanding that elected leaders pass urgent voting rights legislation at the federal level.

The LWVME State Board is pleased to announce the launch of a new League study to examine the use of Ranked Choice Voting in multi-member districts to achieve proportional representation.

Join the ranks of Mainers calling Senator Angus King and Senator Susan Collins and asking them to support the Freedom To Vote Act and the John Lewis Voter Protection Act.

Last week was a good week for Maine. On Tuesday, Maine voters experienced a free, safe, and accessible election. Westbrook residents also voted in favor of expanding Ranked Choice Voting to their municipal elections, the second town to do so after Portland. 
 

The League of Women Voters of Maine (LWVME) reported that through 8:00 PM on Election Day, polling across the state has successfully concluded.

Today, 63% of Westbrook residents voted to expand Ranked Choice Voting to municipal elections, including Mayoral, City Council, and School Committee races. The percentage of voters in favor is higher than in 2016 and 2018 state referendums.

Tomorrow, November 2, is Election Day! If you haven't voted absentee yet or plan to vote in person, don't forget to look up your ballot information at Vote411.org. Our nonpartisan election observers will also tour the state and send us updates from polling locations, which we'll post to Twitter. 
 

The League of Women Voters of Maine and Ranked Choice Voting Westbrook joined forces to host a canvassing event ahead of the November 2nd election. The rally informed Westbrook residents about adopting Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for their local elections.
