Ways to Support
You don’t have to look further than your mailbox or the notifications on your phone to experience the negative impact of corporate power on our democracy.
- Unprecedented corporate spending on referendums, giving big business interests extraordinary influence over issues that affect all of us.
- The toxic mix of media control and growing political clout exercised by Facebook and other social media giants, unraveling our democracy and thwarting regulation.
- Corporations that took a stance after the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection, but have since quietly returned to funding politicians who spread the “Big Lie."
But it's not all doom and gloom. People are also finding creative ways to push back against corporate power and expand our democracy with Clean Elections.
In 2021, we took a big step to reduce corporate influence with the approval of legislation banning corporate contributions to Maine candidates and legislators. When it comes to healthcare, jobs, tax policy, and the environment, corporate interests won’t have that extra influence over our elected officials.
We couldn’t do this without you. Your $5, $25, $100 or $500 contribution puts power back in the hands of Maine people.
