The League of Women Voters of Maine/Democracy Maine is pleased to announce its next Executive Director, Chrissy Hart. Hart will lead the powerful, grassroots organization into a new era of impact, empowering voters and protecting democracy.

The United States District Court for the District of Maine granted a motion on Friday allowing the League of Women Voters of Maine (“LWVME” or “the League”) to intervene as a defendant in United States v. Bellows.

The fight doesn’t end there, and we need your support. While we are proud of our grassroots organization and the dedication that volunteers and members pour into the work, none of it is possible without your contribution.

Election day is November 4th! Remember, teaching about elections and voting will affect significantly whether your students will vote.

Today, Maine voters rejected Question 1, a ballot measure that would have implemented a highly restrictive voter ID law and stripped away popular aspects of absentee voting. This is a win for voting rights and for Maine voters.

The action initiated by the Department of Justice to access voter data would only serve to erode trust in the democratic process. It would needlessly compromise voter privacy and open the door to abuse of these sensitive records. We are committed to protecting Maine voters’ information and preserving the integrity of Maine elections.
