Last November, voters chose to adopt Clean Elections in Portland. This Charter modification will take effect on July 1, 2023 in time for the November 2023 election, and the modification also includes an ordinance prohibiting foreign contributions.
We're at that stage that comes after an election but before implementation — designing how the Clean Elections program will work and coming up with the ideas best suited for Portland. Our memo to the city outlines possible methods for adoption.
The Portland City Council is hosting a workshop on Monday, March 13, where people can submit feedback on the program. The Council will host a second workshop on March 27, and it's expected to make a final vote in April.
